Hot tip on a new D-product!

My husband came home with a new little something the other day.  He works for Medtronic and has a couple of co-workers who also have children with diabetes.  There are some huge benefits to this, including that they share new products with him.  So, he came home with this:

This little thing is AWESOME!  It's a new lancing device, with teeny tiny little lancets, a much quieter click, and a whole lot less movement.  Lily loves it!  Just after we tried it for the first time, we went out for a walk and I had to test Lily with the spare meter.  She got mad that I was using the old "poker"!  I tried it on myself and I honestly would have sworn to you that I hadn't even poked myself!  The only "bad" side to it...you HAVE to use the lancets that are made specifically for it.  And honestly, that's not such a bad thing.  Especially when it comes to saving those teeny, tiny, itty-bitty fingers of our little children just a little bit of the pain and discomfort they already have to deal with!

  1. Looks and sounds great! What is the gauge on the needles Cindy? 33g? Joe's fingers look horrible. They are soooo calloused.

  2. Yup, 33g on the gauge. The thing is so awesome though! You can almost pin-point where it's going to hit on the finger!

Mine are pretty calloused too. The callouses don't hurt though. Just the skin's way of toughening up and protecting itself from future pokes...like we need the skin to make our job any harder to do, right?

  4. THANK YOU .... Our little Ashlee had sensitive skin BEFORE her dx, 8 months ago ... and my mom, who's had T1 for more than 25 years, tests on the SIDE(s) of her finger(s)as the pads of her finger-tips are leather ☺ almost!

  5. That looks great, do you know how it compares to Mulitclix?

  6. Sarah, from what I understand, the delica and multiclix both control side-to-side vibration to give more control, but the multiclix is 30g and the delica is smaller at 33g. I know with the multiclix, there's the benefit of having the lancets in cartridges so that the device stores extras, whereas the delica, you'll have to carry the extra lancets outside of the device. Does that help any or am I just confusing you? I've never used the multiclix...

  7. thanks for the clarification, I think for us we need to stick with the multiclix otherwise TJ would NEVER change his lancet :) I think before Isaac was dx he had used the same one for YEARS, I hear that's normal for most adults with d, but I needed to change that quickly so that Isaac wouldn't balk at my requests to change his lancet as he got older :)
